Sometimes when I create an interactive form, the option to "Run Auto Field Detection" is grayed out and not an option. I can't figure out why some PDF files have this option while others don't.
Are you starting with a scanned document for the PDFs with the Field Detection command greyed out? A scanned PDF contains no actual text- it is just a static representation of the document so the tool has nothing to work with. If this is the case, you need to run OCR ( Optical Character Recognition) on the PDF first so Acrobat has something to detect.
