Saving as a Static PDF

Is it possible to have a fillable form that is filled out become static when it is saved?

I have a form that once it is filled out by the end user and when the end user saves it, the info becomes static and can not be changed when it is opened in the future.

Please take into consideration that the end user most likely is using Acrobat Reader or some other PDF viewer such as Foxit.

I am using Acrobat 9.0 Standard.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

I have the same question. I'm designing a form with editing rights that our Customer Care center staff will use to complete while on the phone with a customer. They then will save the form and email it to the customer. We don't want the customer to be able to edit the form.

Our current workaround is to have our staff install PDFCreator and print the saved PDF to a new PDF file (I haven't tested this yet, but I don't see why it won't work). It's clunky and requires installing additional software. I'd rather set something in Acrobat so that the file can't be changed after it has been saved the first time from Reader.

Hi Dimitri,

Thank you for your help. That thread looks promising, but the link to the tutorial no longer works. I tried searching for "flattening" and "comments" in the tutorial section but couldn't find it.

Also, I may not have been clear: I'm creating the form in Acrobat but our Customer Care staff will be filling it in and saving it in Reader. So I guess I'd have to implement the flattening JavaScript in a button. But as I said, I can't get to the JavaScript.

Hi crassick,

Lots of links are not working on the site since the new design was launched recently. I'm sure they are hard at work on it- sorry the one you want is not working now. Please let team [at] acrobatusers [dot] com know about any broken links you find. Also, I did not realize your reps would be filling out the form in the free Reader. Unfortunately, the flatten JS doesn't work in Reader :(

You could try using a signature on the document. You can set the signature field on the Signed tab to Mark As Read-Only > all Fields.
