Accessibility Issues

I have a problem with this!

I have a form created in Designer. I then open it in Acrobat Professional 8.0 and select

Advanced > Enable Usage Rights

in order to allow the form to be saved and distributed.

Great. I then try and run an accessibility test to get this error message;

"The checker found problems which may prevent the document from being fully accessible.
+ This document is not tagged; the reading order of the contents may not be correct
+ This document contains no fonts. If this document appears to contain text, it may be an image-only PDF file"

I tried to use the OCR Text Recognition tool but the option is greyed out!

What do I have to do to fix this? I though that the whole point of using Adobe was so that the forms were more accessible!

LiveCycle Designer, Windows

Hi R_Boyd,

First, accessibility is different for LiveCycle forms than it is for AcroForms so that is one issue. I have not used accessibility features in a LiveCycle Designer form, so I'm not sure what is available to you in that area.

Second, applying Usage Rights to a PDF is the last thing you should do after finishing the form. Any editing done after applying rights will disable them and require applying them again.

A LiveCycle Designer form and an AcroForm are two completely different animals and cannot be exchangeably edited in both programs ( Acrobat and LCD). Edit LCD forms in LiveCycle Designer, AcroForms in Acrobat. This is why you will find many options in Acrobat greyed out when you are wokring with a LCD PDF. Rather confusing, isn't it?

Hope that helps,

Dimitri

I don't see the point of going to the trouble of applying different tags and screen reader text if that's all going to be ignored when I save the form in Acrobat Professional so it can be saved by users.

As far as I can see the only way I can retain the alternate text and the fact that the document has text and fonts is by saving the document as a static PDF!

There must be something that allows XML forms to be accessible otherwise every dynamic form created in Designer is potentially contravening the accessibility guidlines.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look at that and see what I can do. The last thing I want is my project falling over because of accessibilty issues.

Tried that and all was in place. The accessibility test tells me that I do not have a default language specified. Do you know what that means and how I can fix it?
