I am trying to align a couple of objects on my page. For some reason the options in the Align menu are grayed out and I can't select them. What am I doing wrong?

Hi kenyonpeggy,

If you are trying to use the Align tool in Acrobat for a PDF form you created in LiveCycle Designer, you can't do that. You'll need to open the form in LiveCycle Designer to do the alignment. I won't go into the whys because it would be about the thousandth time I did- just do a search on the difference between LCD forms and AcroForms here- there's likely hundreds of threads on it by now. I don't think LCD has a specific Align tool like the one in Acrobat. Here is what the LiveCycle Designer Help file has on aligning objects-

"When you align objects to each other, the last object you select determines the point of alignment. For example, if you Shift+click several objects to left align them, the objects are aligned to the left edge of the object that you selected last. In a group of selected objects, the last object selected has solid resizing handles.
To align the edges of objects
1. Select the objects that you want to align.

2. Do one of the following actions:

• To align the left edges of the objects, select Layout > Align > Left or click Align Left .• To align the right edges of the objects, select Layout > Align > Right or click Align Right .• To align the tops of objects, select Layout > Align > Top or click Align Top .• To align the bottoms of objects, select Layout > Align > Bottom or click Align Bottom .To align the vertical centers of objects
1. Select the objects that you want to align.

2. Select Layout > Align > Vertical Center or click Align Vertical Center .To align the horizontal centers of objects
1. Select the objects that you want to align.

2. Select Layout > Align > Horizontal Center or click Align Horizontal Center . "If it is a PDF created in Acrobat, activate the Select Object tool, drag a square around the objects to align, then Right Click and the Align tool should be available.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Thanks for the information. I am working in LiveCycle. When I follow the steps and select Layout all the options are grayed out. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.
