My apologies if this is too elementary, but I'm having a difficult time finding my answer:

Using a drop down box, I want the end user to be able to type a letter and jump to that area in the drop down list, if not aslo be able to see the options while doing so.

Please advise.

Isn't this a standard feature yet?

The answers given below are correct answers.

Never has been for Acrobat forms. You might want to send a feature request to Adobe through their web site, Help/Technical Support section.

Acrobat? PUNT!!! Livecycle has a states object which you can pull onto your form, which lists all of the US states. Type a letter in the rendered form, and it will take you to the first state beginning with that letter. Subsequent presses of the same key will cycle through the states that begin with that letter.

This holds true for dropdowns created in Livecycle also, so if there were a list containing "Apple, Adam, Beta, Bravo, Ascot, Charlie, Art" then repeated presses of the letter "A" would show only those items that begin with that letter.

There is a gotcha in this! The list default entry MUST be set to a non-blank entry (object - value - default) otherwise you will get the error sound and nothing will happen!

Hope that helps!

The OP wants a use to type in the first letter and the choice drop to the start of the section with that letter and then the second key press will go the first choice that has the first letter and the second letter.

Acrobat and LiveCycle Designer both work in the same way. If you type the first letter and then typing that letter again work down the choice list for the choices starting with the first letter and cycle through all of the entries with that first character. Pressing any other letter will cause the choice list jump to the next lower item with that first letter.

You have to have the selection list in alphabetical order.
