Error message when opening a form

Hi,
I've created a few forms for our company to be distributed and returned as pdfs via e-mail. The proble is that some of them (not all of them, even if they were done using the same process) indicates on opening in two separated dialog boxes that "this operaiton is not authorized". When you click "ok" in both boxes, the forms work flawlessly, but our staff who needs to fill the forms is a little bit afraid by this error message. I was trying to understand what make these messages happen and what I could do to make them go away.

1. What is the PDF Level of the form you created?

2. What version levels and products being used by the users with the problem?

If the users are using a version of Acrobat/Reader below the level of the form, one can expect a warning if there is no newer PDF feature included in the PDF to the error you reported if you are using a PDF feature that the user's version can not process.

The form was created in pdf 7 and the users experiencing the problem use reader 7, reader 8 and acrobat 8 pro, depending on the users. I've seen the warning message you alk about when I tried opening it with acrobat 6 to see the potential compatibility errors, and it's not that kind of message.

I have also run into the same problem. Form created in Pro 8 LiveCycle - error message comes up twice in Reader 8, Reader 7, and Pro 8. Form appears to work fine once you click "OK" on both error message pop-ups. The form is using a PDF as a background image with the form fields laid on top. Don't know is this woul dbe an issue.

I don't think it really is an issue since our tests here didn't notice any flaw that wasn't in the ones that did not fail (the main difference between them being the text in some read-only fields) but still, users don't like to see error messages when they open a file ;)

There are many properties or methods within the Acrobat JavaScript object that are not accessible by product or version. You could use the "try{statements} catch(e){null}" JS statement to trap the error and ignore it.

I am a complete novice and do not know how to run the aforementioned script. Any other "easier" suggestions or am I out of luck? Are there any quick tutorials for learning how to run that script? Thanks for the help.

An error message can sometimes occur when fonts are not emedded in the underlying PDF that you imported into LiveCycle Designer. Check to make sure the fonts are all embedded, if not, re-import.
When the PDF is opened in Acrobat/Reader, if the fonts are not embedded, and not on the system, they will be substituted, thus the error message.
