Field Size, Length

Here are some questions relating to field sizes.
I have a form with a number of fields where the user enters a 4-digit year.
I have defined them all as text with a length limit of 4 characters.

So my questions are
1) How do I get rid of the '+' sign that appears in all of these fields? It seems that no matter how long I stretch the field out the + stays.

2) I get the following message for all of these fields

"The field's value area is too small to fit the maximum length value permitted. Increase the fields value area or decrease or decrease it's value length to ensure that all possible values fit."

Couple of possibilities:
Adjust font size.
Instead of stretching the box lengthwise, increase its size by stretching the top or bottom. Sometimes once you do that, you can resize the box and the + disappears

Stretching the height on this particular form won't be an easy task. I would prefer a more elegant solution, if one exists.

Hi dglarson,

Did you try pforms' other suggestion to reduce the font size?

So I just tried changing the font size and that got rid of the + sign. Hooray!
I still have all of the messages I mentioned above. Maybe once I change them all the messages will go away.

So now I am left with changing the font and font size on about 50 fields. Not a task I am looking forward to. Is there anyway to copy the properties from one field to another (I actually have another post asking this precise question so if you want to answer there that would be good)?

Hi dglarson,

I don't have LiveCycle Designer running right now, but I'm pretty sure it works the same as Acrobat for selecting multiple fields. If you select a field and then hold down the Control (Ctrl) key while selecting other fields you can then change the properties of all selected fields at once from the Properties dialog.

So, I now have a new form and I am getting the same problem, i.e. when I enter something into that field a + sign appears. I have defined it as a text field with maximum length of 3 characters. I enter 3 characters but it still displays the + sign. In my opinion the field is plenty big enough to hold 3 characters, but NO, Acrobat seems to think it isn't. I am not even completely sure what the + sign means and don't know where to look in the acrobat documentation for an explanation.

I have also set the option to NOT "Scroll long field", i.e. that option is NOT checked in the properties.

So I have reduced the font size but it still displays the + sign and I cannot reduce the font any further because it will be too small to see.

I actually wouldn't mind the + sign appearing on entry if I could get it to disapper when printing the form, but No, the + sign appears on the printed form.

I wish I understand the meaning and operational characteristics of this + sign and how to get rid of it without reducing the font or expanding the form field. Does anyone know that? Point me to documentation that discusses it.

Have you tried changing the look of the field (from sunken box to none, for example)?
