Microsoft Word to LiveCycle: why aren't fonts embedded?

I have noticed that LiveCycle seems to embed fonts within dynamic pdf forms. I deleted Arial Narrow off my machine and tested the form and it still appeared as Arial Narrow. This is great! However...

When I design a form in Microsoft Word using a table to arrange the information, it presents some problems. Here are the steps I take:

1. Lay out information in a table in Microsoft Word
2. Create PDF from Word Document
3. Add form fields in Acrobat X
4. Open form in Live Cycle and adjust form fields as needed
5. Save as a dynamic pdf

When I open the pdf after following the above steps, if the font I used (say Arial Narrow) is not on my machine, it turns into a jumbled mess and substitutes the font for another one.

My question is this: why is it that when you build a dynamic form from scratch in LiveCycle, it embeds the fonts and they appear properly- but when it is built in Word and then brought into LiveCycle, it substitutes the missing font?

Is there any way around this, or some step I am missing?

Thanks!

When you open a Word document in LC, make sure that you do not have "Ignore missing Fonts" checked in the File Import Options dialog. Once you know what fonts are being substituted you can use the Tools > Options > Document Handling command to modify any necessary font substitutions.
