Preview PDF tab disappeared from my LiveCycle Design workspace

Any idea why this would happen?

At one time the Preview Pdf tab was there and functional.

I was making my form, testing with the Preview PDF tab, then opening the form in Acrobat to turn on the extended permissions, then opening in Adobe Reader to test the functionality and layout of the filled out form. All was fine.

Then one day, when I tried to open the form in Acrobat, it instead opened in Reader and continued to do so. I checked around as to what was going on and set the form to open in Acrobat. Then, when ready, I opened Reader and opened the form from inside Reader. Nothing happened.

Then neither one would work right so I asked our IT guys to reinstall both and they did.

Everything was sort of back to normal. Sometimes I noticed that Preview PDF was not a tab, sometimes it was... Strange. Now it never is.

HOW does this happen? At least with the Preview PDF tab I could easily move back and forth and actually get stuff done. Now it is a pain in the neck.

Has this happened to anyone else? And I cannot believe that both Reader AND Acrobat should not be installed on the same PC. That makes no sense whatsoever.

ANY ANSWERS OUT THERE???

You might have clicked the 'x' on the 'Preview' tab or unchecked the 'Preview' option under the menu's 'View' option. You can either select the 'Preview' option under the menu's 'View' option or press the 'F5' key.

Thanks for the quick response!

Nope, the Preview PDF under the View option is grayed out. F5 also does not work.

Any other ideas?

Hi Maria,

I am experiencing the same problem as you – sometimes the preview pdf tab is there, and sometimes it is not!
When it is not there, there is no option to select it when you right click the master page tab, and in the view menu the option is greyed out.

I have looked at a lot of suggested fixes and my settings are already what is recommended. Besides the fact that the preview pdf tab is sometimes there and sometimes not (when I haven’t changed any settings) suggests something else is going on – or not going on as the case may be!

I have found a trick though that I thought I would share in case it helps someone else. It seems to work consistently for me the few times I have done it so lets hope it helps other people.

When I want to preview the form, if the view pdf tab is not there, I save the form and then do File>distribute form. When the wizard comes up I just cancel it. This opens Acrobat and displays the form, which I can then close. When I go back to designer my original form is closed and I have to open it again, but magically when I do, the preview pdf tab appears. It stays put for session once I have done this, so I don’t have to do the dummy distribute form every time.Don’t know why this works. Perhaps someone technical can figure it out so that Adobe can fix this annoying bug. I would be interested to know if this works for anyone else too
