I know somebody somewhere must have had to do something similar to this before, but for the life of me I can't find it. I suspect I'm not using the right search terms.
I have a form that is used by someone selling tickets to an event. At the start of the day, they open the form and after processing the order they hit an email submit button and clear the form fields, leaving the form open. They may process a number of other orders that day and then close down when they leave.
I need each order processed to be assigned a unique number that increments by one. I can do this easily with formcalc when they click submit but what I don't know how to do is to decide what the starting number that day should be when the form is opened. It should be the last order number sold yesterday + 1 but how to I retrieve that info?
Can I save it somewhere in the form or get the form to retrieve it from a text file saved on her computer? And, if the latter, how do I save the current order number to that text file when she closes acrobat at the end of her shift?
Any assistance or alternative approachs to this would be greatly appreciated.
I'm pretty new at this myself, but I suspect you'll need to set up a spreadsheet or database which will be the repository for your ticket order info. Then link your .pdf order number field to the database/spreadsheet (& any other relevant fields). Thus the information is being dumped to that repository and being retrieved from it respectively. This as I understand it is either a binding or data connection function, but this is where I get out of my depth. So you're probably wondering what on earth help I am. Basically I'm hoping my suggestion will prompt someone with more knowledge to respond - and selfishly, I'd love to know too.
Good luck,
