Underlined fields do not show underline

I've set the fields in the form I'm creating to "underlined." They look fine in the design view, but in preview, there are no lines at all. I checked under "custom," and that shows that the bottom portion of the field is set to underline.

Any ideas?

TIA!

Try clicking on the "Object" tab and then under "Field" there's a drop-down menu under "Appearance:" where you can set it. I don't believe you need to set it to "Custom" once you'vd done that unless you want to change the thickness of your underline. If you do have it set to "Custom," it may be that the underline color is set to light grey and that's why you can see it in design view and not print preview. Do the underlines show up when you open the file in Acrobat Pro?

Not sure if I've helped, but it can't hurt to check. ;-)

I know this is an old post but I'm having the same issue. I have question text fields on a form and I've changed the appearance the for answer field to underline. When I preview the form I see a solid black box on the field. Even if I don't type an answer I would still like it to be printed underlined. I don't want to have to resort to using an underlined font. Because I have so many pages I really don't want to have to use the line tool to draw the line. Any other suggestions?

I have found the problem!

This happens with imported fields or fields copied from an older document to a new one; the coding doesn't import correctly.

You need to view the XML code for the field and manually change the code. For any beginners out there, it is not as complex as it sounds.

Open the form in LiveCycle Designer
Click on the field you are having the problem with, then click on View, XML Source. The XLM pane will open and the cursor will be positioned at the beginning of the code for the field you selected. Look for code that says:

and change it to:

Voila' problem solved. Unfortunatley, you will have to do this for each field.

An alternative option is to delete the field and create a new one.
