Why is a LCD form so slow to open after Extended Rights were added?

I saw a very good explanation of the reason that the LiveCycle Designer forms are so slow to open after extended rights have been added, but now I can't find it again.

My company is starting to use Acrobat-created forms and we are trying to decide which way to make them--with Acrobat or with LiveCycle Designer. The slow opening problem is a factor. So I would like a good explanation of why this happens.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for making these forms open faster, I could sure use it.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.0, Windows

Hi suewhitehead,

Here is an Adobe Developer doc that discusses things to consider to get better performance from LiveCycle forms-

http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/lc_designer_perf_guidelines.pdf

It is a bit dated, but still appears to have some good tips.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Dimitri, the document is useful and I will study it for other things I can do to make my forms open faster.

But it does not address the Extended Rights issue where the form opens much slower with extended rights enabled. I would like an explanation or a link to an explanation of why this happens.

I found it. The post that I saw was by DTHanna on 06/03/2008. Very Good explanation.
Also I have gone thru the document you pointed me to, Dimitri. It may have knocked off 3 seconds on the opening time of my form. Now it is down from 15 seconds to 12 seconds average.

I had a form that took 5 minutes to open on a P4 with 512 MB RAM after it was Reader Extended (it opened much quicker before being enabled).

I found by saving the form as XDP, that it was havily affected by this bug: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7196a

The xdp was 66MB!

There is a patch, but I just removed the incorrectly duplicated lines in the xdp of:

http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7196a

The xdp was reduced to 360kb, and now opens in 2 seconds on same P4 512MB RAM AFTER being Reader Extended
