When I open Acrobat Pro I get icons on the left hand side of the screen for pages, signatures, how to get help, view attachments and comments. But NOT Bookmarks. In order to see bookmarks I need to use ctrl-B or the menu at the top of the screen. This is contrary to the Help topic sxplanation or the action of prior versions of Acrobat.

How to I get the icon for bookmarks to appear on the left side of the viewing panels?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.1, Windows

Hi --

I've never heard of this issue. I suspect it is something to do with your installation. Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation. The program will evaluate its configuration and installation, and hopefully fix your problem.donna.

This type of viewing is usually set in the 'Initial View" properties of each PDF, "File => Properties => Initial View" and select "Bookmarks Panel and Page".If you are creating the PDFs from another program, check your conversion settings.

If you are creating the file from a PosScript file add a PDFMark statment to set the opening properties.

Hi --

The options listed are used on a file by file basis. My understanding is that the original writer didn't see the Bookmarks tab included in the program interface, which is more of a program configuration issue.

I thought the OP had the bookmarks available:

"In order to see bookmarks I need to use ctrl-B or the menu at the top of the screen"

Forcing the bookmarks to appear for a PDF will bring up the bookmark tab.

What probably happened is someone pulled the bookmark tab off the navigation pane and closed the tab of Acrobat. To restore it, use control "B" to bringup the pop-up window and drag the "Bookmark" tab to the Navigation" pane.
