Acrobat 8 Pro Attaching Files Versus Combining Files

I recently upgraded to Acrobat 8 Pro and I'm confused to the difference between attaching files and combining files. Both allow you to add different file types. I see that combining files allows you to specify page ranges and you can also add and rename fields in the package properties, but are there any other differences to be aware of?

It seems to me that you could almost always use the Combine Files function, so I'm a bit unclear as to when/why it would be preferable to use Attach Files instead of Combine Files.

Thank you.

The Combine Files toolbar is just a quick method for converting different types of files (or exisiting PDFs) into one PDF or PDF Package. The Attach Files command however, doesn't convert files to PDF -- it just attaches them to an existing PDF. So you can use this command to attached a native Excel file within a PDF.
In addition, PDF Packages (part of the Combine Files feature) are unique because each file appears separately and has its own pagination. PDFs within the PDF Package also retain their individual security settings, forms features, and default views, and digital signatures stay intact.

Hi,
I´m using Acrobat 8 to create PDF documents. The document is updated some times per day and the document should always be saved with the same filname. But if any user has the document open in Acrobat Reader I can´t save the document with the same filename. Is there any way to come round this problem?

Is it possible to get the list of selected files in "Combine files" as a separate file which could be saved and sent to (used by) some other user of Acrobat 8, instead of starting from scratch again.
Thanks in advance for any answer.

-No. If multiple users are accessing the same file at the same time, only the first one can edit it.
-Possibly. But it will need to be done using a script. There's no built-in tool in Acrobat that does that.

Is there a way to attach files to a PDF form that has had Reader Rights enabled? We created a form using LiveCycle Designer, and enabled Reader Rights because some of our users only have Reader, not the full Acrobat program. They still need to save a copy of the form once they have filled it out. Occasionally they need to include another document when they submit the form by email, and it would be nice to have a button that allows them to attach a file before they submit the form.

Thanks,

Hi,
I'm using Acrobat 8 standard, and i am trying to attach a pdf, a Word and an Exel file to my document, but the attach feature let me select the file and appears to be going through the motion of attaching a file, but nothing happens on my document. where do the attached files go? or is this not available for version 8.0

Make sure that the following preference is unchecked Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager category "Allow opening of non-PDF file attachments with external applications".

Attached files can be seen in the Attachments panel (View - Navigation Panels - Attachments).
