Acrobat 9 slow loading

I'm posting here because Adobe seems to REFUSE to support my problem with their product: Acrobat 9 Pro Extended!

Basic problem: SLOW, especially SLOW LOADING large (multi-megabyte, multi-tens-of megabyte) files.
It can take 10-20-30-never minutes to load a large book size pdf with Acrobat Pro 9 Extended.

I think Adobe must be gong down hill quickly as a company not to support such an obvious problem. If you search these forums (and/or google) you will see that SLOW is a pervasive problem for Acrobat - for many years/versions.

It appears to me that Adobe has the 'B' or 'C' 'squad' developers working on Acrobat and/or the real developers have quit/gone elsewhere (TBD).

To Adobe's credit it has many nice features - but what good are any of these if you can get the thing to load/come up and run?

I'm very disappointed in Adobe Acrobat 9!

I have not see any solution for this problem...maybe someone in these forums may know of a solution.
I sure hope so...

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.1.1, Windows

Hi mjc777,

Did you create these huge PDFs? If not, can you contact the author? I've experienced slow loading of really large PDFs, but nothing as slow as you describe. My guess is there is something wrong with the PDF or it is not optimized. Can you provide a link to one of these problem files?

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

The PDFs I am referring to - use to load quickly - under former versions of Acrobat - so that's not the problem. Also, some / many of these (PDFs) are from professional book publishing organizations, e.g.: Orielly/Safari, others.

Thanks anyway... I appreciate your help. BTW: I'm getting a bit desperate to access my rather large repository of large electronic books in PDF format. It is truly shocking to me - Adobe's inability to deal with this problem.

Just curious, but do you know if these PDFs were created using Acrobat (it will tell you under the Document Properties) or another 3rd party tool?

I just stumbled upon new information. I noticed that large publications with lots of graphics are faster loading - re: than just plan text books with lots of just plain test. While still slow loading - large, heavy graphics PDFs (10MB+) are actually somewhat usable. Large text books - as PDFs - with few graphics are pretty much still unusable.
