Acrobat 9.0 Pro Crashes when Inserting pages into large documents

Hi, we are experencing an issue when we try to insert pages into a large PDF document. Most of these documents seem to be over 100 pages so I consider them large. When we try to insert a page (doesn't matter if its 1 page or 10 pages), Acrobat 9.0 crashes.

From the Event log:

Faulting applications acrobat.exe, version 9.1.0.163, faulting module acrobat.dll, version 9.1.2.82, fault address 0x00803f8a.

This happens on all our computers in our company. I was told this didnt happen before when we were using Acrobat 8.0 standard.

All our machines are running Windows XP, SP3. We are using Acrobat 9.0 Professional (9.13).

Any help, suggestions or if more information is needed, I appreciate anyone's help.

Thanks!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.3.1, Windows

this suggests the problem is in the files, not the computers.
please answer:
- did all the files come from the same source?
- have you made any modifications to the files?

try this: optimize a file and then see if this resolves the issue.

if it's not resolved, please post a file to adobe.com

Thanks for your reply rbogie....

From what I know, this department is taking a number of documents (sometimes as many as 10) and is making PDF's of them. They then collect the various PDF's and insert pages from each into a larger PDF. They are now consistently crashing when attempting to do so.

I would love to tell them that its the file and not something on the computer causing this, however one of our users brought in her own laptop and was able to do this without any crashing.

So to answer your question, it appears they come from different sources and yes there have been modifications to the files.

I tried to optimize the file twice.

1. The first time I used the standard optimize and saved it, then tried to insert a page and it crashed.
2. The second time I did a custom optimize and selected more options and it crashed.

this issue manifests on how many PCs?
try doing an install repair on one of them.
do you mean that you were doing the page insertions without problem until something changed?
what changed?
the issue may be beyond the scope of this forum.
perhaps you should contact Adobe.

Variable(s) of interest:

(1) Corporate computer assests with a corporate IT image, with Acrobat, installed.
(2) Individual "asset" with an "out-of-the-box" retail install of Acrobat.

(2) works
(1) does not work

Implies that the corporate install reflects customization(s) that altered the Acrobat install.
Perhaps to turn off auto updates or functionality for connecting to acrobat.com.
Regardless, as Doug Hanna (dthanna) has indicated in many posts (Deployment & Installation Forum)
the prep of a corporate/enterprise roll-out can be a challenge.

This post, by Lori, provides links to the "Administrator's Information Manager for Acrobat" (AIM).
The tool is meant to help the back room folks with configuration, deployment, and management of clients and workflows associated with the PDF platform.

Perhaps, it may be helpful (?).
