Acrobat 9.0 Standard Black Box Issue

I have a client running XP Pro x64 with Acrobat 9.0 Standard.

When a single PDF is open, Acrobat behaves normally.

When multiple PDFs are open, a black box appears on top of the PDF that gets moved to the back by the second PDF. Additionally, clicking on an image in the PDF - when multiple PDFs are open - will display a black box over the picture. This box will also cascade onto additional pages in the PDF.

These boxes will go away when the page view options are changed, but will reappear on the original page view.

This is not a video issue, the client is a workstation with a high-end card.

I have updated, uninstalled, re-installed and re-updated Acrobat with no luck.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.2, Windows

Are you saying that changing the Edit > Preference > Page Display category "Show large images" affects this? Is your client using a 2D graphics card? If so is it one of the supported cards list at 2D Graphics Acceleration (GPU) support in Acrobat and Adobe Reader (9.0 on Windows).

Thanks for responding.

The workstation is running a Quadro FX 4600 which is supported.

I did change the Page Display preferences to match those on another workstation with a FX 4600 and similar hardware, but the problem still persisted. What made the boxes disappear momentarily was to toggle the "show one page at a time" and "fill the window" buttons. Still, when a new PDF was opened, the boxes would appear.

I ended up removing 9.0 and installing 8.0 which solved the problem. As soon as I put 9.0 back on, the boxes reappeared. The workstation is running 8.0 now.

Did the "Use 2D graphics acceleration" option appear when Acrobat 9 was installed? This is a key difference between Acrobat 8 and 9.
