Acrobat could not communicate with this device?

Hello first time posting, this is my problem - I just installed acrobat 9 standard on my new laptop which is running Vista Business 32 bit. I'm using an HP Officejet D145, the HP site doesn't give any any drivers to download for Vista it just states to plug it in and Vista will recognize the device and it has I can print w/o issues. Now when I try to configure my presets so I can create a PDF from my scanner, it sees the scanner there, but when I choose it I get the error message "Acrobat could not communicate with this device". I have rebooted, downloaded and installed the HP Photosmart junkware and nothing has changed. PLEASE HELP!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

Okay problem is partially solved, I had to open windows photo gallery, import from scanner, and wait a couple of minutes for Vista to recognize the drivers for the scanner. Then I opened acrobat and it recognized the device. Now I have an unrelated problem, when I scan on the automatic paper size preset, it scans the letter size docs into legal size. When I attempt to change the size to letter I do not get that option when the scanner is selected. So I unselect the scanner and I get all of the paper size options, choose letter, then choose the scanner and it states that the scanner does not support this size of document. WTH!!! Doesn't support letter? Anyone?

Thanks for all the help, but I actually figured it out. You have to use the XP drivers, run as admin and in XP compatibility mode. Then when you choose the scanner you will see the twain xp profile for the d145 then use that. A wasted day, thank you Vista!

Fred, I'm having the same problem. Could you (or someone else) please provide a few more details about how you got Acrobat 9 to recognize my scanning device. All the drivers seem to be in place, but I still get the error message "Acrobat could not communicate with this device." Your help is appreciated.

The problem I had was that it was an older scanner "HP Office Jet D145" and the only drivers for that printer/scanner were included in the Vista OS. It would print ok and I could scan using photo gallery, but when I would scan using Adobe 9.0 I had no option to adjust the paper sizes and when I tried it would state "Adobe could not communicate this this device". What I had to do was download the XP drivers, before I began the install right click on the exe, run as admin, properties, run in XP compatibility mode then install the drivers. That's what worked for me, good luck.

Using Acrobat 9 for Mac and I just installed new Epson scanner (Perfection V500 Photo) to run on my Mac Mini (SNOW LEOPARD OS) and I'm getting the dreaded "Acrobat could not communicate with this device". The scanner works fine OUTSIDE of Acrobat. Cannot create pdf files in Acrobat 9.
Any ideas/help would be much appreciated.
