can this new acrobat X be used for presentations to replace powerpoint?
with video, slides and animations?
Or is adobe presenter 7 better for this?
on seeing the acrobat X features on Adobe it seems more for a portfolio than a live presentation where I could lead the viewers through a series of slides, videos and animated flow charts, ?
all feedback and views welcome...

I have adobe creative suite cs5, with photoshop,
can I just get acrobatX no the suite? its confusing,
If I can do presentations just in acrobatX without presenter 7 I would do that, but I would probably need captivate also from what it does screen recordings, not sure if I would need presenter 7 unless I wanted to present via powerpoint, can I do a presentation with animations just in acrobatX without presenter 7?

Acrobat is not a design and publishing application, so it can never be used to "replace" something like PowerPoint.
You can convert existing PowerPoint documents into PDF using Acrobat, or into Flash-based web pages using Adobe Presenter (a PowerPoint plugin), but neither of those can make your slides in the first place. With Acrobat Pro installed, you have the option to add SWF or Flash Video content to slides - provided they are exported to PDF for viewing. With Presenter installed you can also export those types of rich media into SWF web pages.
Adobe Captivate is an alternative to PowerPoint in that it can create slide decks from scratch, but it is primarily designed as a screen capture and software training tool - PowerPoint has richer features for slide design, but Captivate can record your screen and embed those recordings into the slides, for output to SWF or FLV.
Both Captivate and Presenter can create quizzes and surveys, and attach them to slides - though to receive the reports you will need to be running an LMS server with a SCORM or AICC interface, or have an account on an Adobe Connect Pro server.

If you could clarify the following, my procedure:
ok my process is to use flash and flash catalyst(with PS and AI) to generate my slide content,
then use adobe pro to create the slides, (or import into captivate)

Then for my actual slideshow presentation: I can use adobe captivate as alternative to powerpoint as you mentioned, or use presenter7 to have flash slideshow in powerpoint.. ( so 2 options for my slide presentation).. ?
