I am new to Acrobat 8 Professional. If I have pdf files on a cd or dvd do I have to print them off and scan them to run them through the OCR or is there a way to do the OCR with the documents on a disc?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Windows

You can run OCR in batch on your PDFs with Acrobat 8 Pro. Dimitri has a suggestion for doing this on the post at:

Files on a CD-R or DVD-R will be read only. If OCR'd you'd not be able to save the resultant file(s). If on CD-RW or DVD-RW with the disc still open you'd be able to save and overwrite files.

Typically, it is easier to transfer the PDFs to your HDD. Use Acrobat to OCR and save the PDFs. Then burn another disc. If going to a CD-R/DVD-R close/finalize the disc.

Be well...

Excellent. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure that I did not need to scan them. It appears that I do not. Once I have the electronic file, acrobat can scan it. Thanks for your help.
