I Just installed Acrobat X I can no longer save pdf files after I have added any comments etc. I have to save the pdf to a new file. This is really annoying. In version 8 I did not have to save to a new file. Is there a setting to allow this?

It appears it wants to save it to a temp folder which I think is the reason I am getting the read only message

You may have to enable your rights to temporary folders for a user or login as an administrator. There are also restriction to only allow saving to safe paths. The root directory is not considered a safe path. I would stick to "My Documents" for the logged in user.

1st I have adim rights2nd what is a safe path? Version 8 I didn't have this problem. I saved the pdf to any folder and could edit that file a save it again and again.
So far version X pro seems like a downgrade from version 8 pro

This restriction only applies when saving the file using a script. When you save it yourself you should be able to save it anywhere you want.

I've heard other reports of Acrobat X locking a file, which prevents it from being saved using the same name or even deleted after it's no longer open in Acrobat. You should report it here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

I am the administrator on this machine. The files are stored on both DropBox and on my hard drive.I am forced to use Save As for every document that I change, whether it was scanned or created by Adobe from a Word or Excel file.
This is a new Windows 7 machine. On my previouse installation (Windows 7 running in Parallels on a MacBook Pro), I had the same problem. I was able to get a support call, and they fixed the problem by making changes to register, among other things.

If you use the file preview of the Windows 7 Explorer, the write access to the file is blocked as long it's selected in the explorer.
Deactivating the preview bar (symbol in the upper right corner) in the Explorer generally fixes the problem.
