Distiller error message

Ever since installing Acrobat 8, I've been getting an error message pop up that says "Distiller has encountered a problem and must close." In each of these cases, Distiller was not running. A number of my coworkers are getting the same error. I've not seen anything about this on the Adobe website. Any ideas?

This might take a little doing to pinpoint the problem. You might edit the Distiller Adobe PDF Settings and try to create a PDF with the fonts embedding off. Try to play a little with Distiller settings to make sure Distiller can actually create a PDF file.

If you find success here, then go to the documents you're working with and check them. You may have a font problem or other issue going on with the native file.

But, I wasn't trying to Distill a file when the error message appeared. In every instance of this error message showing up, Distiller was not running. Such is the case also with my coworkers who are having this problem.

Guess what? I'm having the same problem too!

Since a install Adobe Acrobat 8 Standard, when I try to print using "PDF printer" from any application (notepad, any Internet brwoser, any text processor, etc.) under Windows XP, I get the "Distiller has encountered a problem and must close" message.

Since the problem was reported so long ago, I don't understant that nobody at Adobe addressed it!
I can't find a solution to this problem nowhere in Internet! (but to get rid of Acrobat and use others [free] apllication like CutePDF Writer, doPDF, PDFCreator, BullZip, etc.).

So, can somebody at Adobe have a solution?

Hi ProgMan,

In your internet search did you find this Adobe TechNote?
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb402893

Not sure if it will fix your particular issue but it does offer ideas on troubleshooting for the exact error message you are seeing (plus quite a few others).

Occasionally an Adobe employee stops by here and answers a question or two, but 99% of the time you are conversing with other users of Acrobat here, not Adobe employees. If you want an official Adobe take or response on something then you will need to contact Adobe support directly.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri
