My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0.0, Windows
Acrobat Distiller is used to convert files printed to PostScript to PDF. That's the only purpose for Distiller's existence.
Acrobat, among many other things, can be used for a PDF creator for certain file types. Take a look at the Preferences dialog box and Convert to PDF to view all the supported file types that Acrobat uses to convert to PDF.
In addition, Acrobat is a complete authoring application that enables you to view, edit, print, etc. PDF files —something you can't do with Distiller.
