I created a pdf file from scanner and ticked the option "Make Searchable". I can search my pdf file and I assumed that it had been OCR. When I try to type or delete texts using the "TouchUp Text tool", no text appears or disappear!! The help files mentioned that "You can add or replace text only if the font used is installed on your system." Since the system reported the scanned text is in "Times Roman" and only "TimesNew Roman" is installed in the system, it seems that I CANNOT add or delete text!!!!!! Please advise whether my conclusion is correct or not.

I also printed a document from my computer and scan the page, the system also reported that the text is in "Times Roman" even I use "TimesNew Roman" to create the text!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please advise what I can do to edit my scanned document.

In my experience, when acrobat OCR's a scan it creates the text behind the graphic. This allows the document to be searchable, but still sees the scan as a picture. To actually edit the scan it should be brought into a photo editor where text can be erased and replaced. Using the Touchup Text tool you should be able to select text (which is actually selecting it from a layer created underneath) and copy and paste it into a new acrobat document. This new document should allow you the capabilities of adding and deleting text, but will lose alot of the formatting.

Hope this is helpful.

I am looking to perform the same type of edits (on product drawings that have been scanned into a .pdf) with Adobe 8.x Standard. Looks like I need to use a phote editor software. Which do you recommend?

You don't mention what version of Acrobat you're using but if you're using version 9 then try selecting Clearscan in the Recognize Text Setting menu. This will allow you to utilize the Touch Up Text tool to make changes to the document. However, you'll need to change the font from the custom fonts to a font that is available on your computer.
