A colleague sent me a file made in acrobat 5. I can open it in acrobat 8 on my laptop and scroll down, but it disappears when I scroll up. Please advise a fix to this issue.

This sounds like an issue for Adobe Technical Support- you should contact them for help with this problem. Are you having the scrolling trouble with other PDF files,or only this one? I have read about other scrolling issues with Acrobat 8 and suggestions were made that it is a video card problem (drivers needed updating), but none of those problems fit what you are describing exactly.
