How Can I Do PDF Thumbnail Watermarks

Hi,
I came across a 60 page PDF document file that had a watermark image that was displayed on the PDF thumbnails pictures only. I'd like to learn how to do this but I can't find anywhere that says how this is accomplished.

Can anybody help or provide some links to learning this method.

Can you be mor specific about the facts?

What OS?
What version of Acrobat/Reader?
Are you talking about a file manger view or application navigation pane?
