How can I stop having acrobat files open in Acrobat Pro 6 by default?

Whenever I click on an online acrobat link, I get an error message:

"The adobe acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. adobe acrobat reader version 8 or 9 is required. please exit and try again".

Then my adobe pro 6 opens, and cannot read the document. This just started happening this year.
What can I do to have the docs open in reader 8 or 9?, I have it installed.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 6.0, Windows

Open Reader 9 (or 8) go to the help menu, then : detect and repairs.

This will reinstall the Reader 9 (or 8) plugin in the web navigator.

Thank you so much for this information! I had the same problem when trying to open .pdf files online. I took your advice, and I can now open Adobe pdf files online again without any hassle.
