I am using Acrobat 8 Standard Edition. I would like to place tabs on the left hand side of my PDF document that link to certain areas. For example, I want a tab to say "Chapter 1" and when I click on it the document jumps to Chapter 1. Can anyone please help. Thanks.

Ok thanks. Is there anyway to have little tabs on the side instead of the bookmarks listed in that window pane?

Use a button form field.

Just an observation.
You cann't put a Button field into the Bookmarks panel.
They can go on the PDF page.
Problem is, unless you drop page magnification and use a page view like Two-Up Continuous you'll not "see" these faux "tabs".
You could assemble a vertical or horizontal row of Button Fields, each with their own label and action.
The "row" could be replicated across all PDF pages.
With that said, if "tabs", as used in a binder, are what is desired well, these really are a paper centric thing rather than an eFile thing.
For PDF, George's suggestion to use Bookmarks is the practical/functional equivalent.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think I will just stick with using the bookmarks feature. Does anyone know why sometimes when I click on a bookmark it doesn't jump to the set destination right away? Sometimes I have to "click around" to other areas before I get one to work.

In Acrobat you can edit the bookmark labels by clicking on them. It's possible that this is what you are seeing? It happens to me all the time. If you click on the page icon, instead of the text it should work better.

To add a book mark, you can scroll down to the chapter and use the mouse context menu (right mouse click) and select the "Add Bookmark" option or use the " + B" key combination.
