How to have Acrobat open TIFF files?

My wife recently upgraded her computer and Acrobat and now we're having an issue opening TIFF files. She has a fax modem on her small business server (SBS 2003) that delivers faxes to her email inbox as TIFF attachments. She wants to open them in Acrobat by default, so when she double clicks on the TIFF file attachment it opens in Acrobat.

On her old computer and Acrobat (WinXP, Acrobat 8 Pro) we just set the Windows default file association for .tiff and .tif files to Acrobat and it worked. Now her new computer is Acrobat X Pro and Win7 Pro (32-bit) and it doesn't work. I set the default file association for .tiff and .tif to Acrobat but it fails to open the fax attachments. When I reset the file association to document viewer it opens the TIFF files no problem, so I know the file isn't corrupted.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to resolve this so she can open the faxes in Acrobat by default?

Thanks
Jeff

I just tried setting this in Acrobat X and Windows 7 without any problems. Do you have administrative rights on the user account you're trying to do this with?

Lori,

Thanks for the reply -- she does have admin rights, at least I'm pretty sure she does; I'll double check that. Windows allowed her to change the setting without saying she needed admin rights, but Acrobat won't open the file. I'll try to get the specifics of the error message and post it here.

Thanks

Turns out she fixed it -- we had a miscommunication and she had changed the default file association for TIFF files to Adobe Reader vice Acrobat. Once she pointed TIFF to Acrobat it worked fine. Appreciate the reply and answer -- that did help us get on the same sheet of music!

Thanks
