I have never encountered a more frustrating program in my life than Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9.2 , Ive spent the last 2 days trying to erase one measely word from a scanned document saved as a pdf file.

It lets me cross out the word with a red line using the "Touch Up Text Tool" however when I hit delete to erase the word completely it wont do it it just ends up deleting the red line instead. When I delete something I want it GONE not a ridicilious red line over it to add a mark up or comments to!!!

Because its a scanned document its failing to recognise the text as a standard font so I tried treating the word as an "image by selecting "edit image" and that failed, so I try deleting the word by treating it as an object by selecting "Touch UP Object Tool" and it still wont erase it, then I try selecting "Edit fields" from the forms menu and then clicking on delete but instead it actually ends up deleting the whole page when it cant even delete one simple measely WORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It obviously recognises the text because I can scroll overit and highlight with the cursor or locate the word in the document search menu then why wont it let me delete the dam thing ?

ARGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!! It has me so frustrated!!@!@

I went out and bought adobe acrobat in order to be able to delete a misplaced word ina pdf document and I feel like I wasted my money on a program thats takes up over 1 GIG space yet it cant even do a simple delete function.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.2, Windows

At the top of this page is a Search box, type in Redaction and click search. This will bring up a list of articles, tutorials, and etc on dealing with your issue.

Thank you so much , you have finally resolved my frustration, I would have never guessed the simple method of erasing a text would be titled as a Redaction.

After trying the Redaction option I was equally concerned that it placed an unwanted solid black box to cover up the text on a white page but I soon discovered the option to change the color of the solid box from black to white under "Redaction Area Fill color" so now the Redacted text is invisible just as if it was erased. Problem solved.

Out of curiosity why couldn't adobe just implement an "Eraser Tool" to manually erase any type of text, image or object using an eraser in the form of a cursor, after all they do have "pencil tool" so why not an all purpose eraser ?

I suspect a new tool will be developed for this purpose in the next version of Acrobat.

If you're satisfied with the solution, please mark this question answered.

Ok I have now marked it as answered, thanks.

One more question though if you may....I have a paragraph that I want to move down the page to a different position, I tried using the "Touch Up Object Tool" however it selects the whole page to be moved rather than just the paragraph. Probably because its not recognizing the scanned text as familiar. Is there a way to select a body of scanned text then move it to a different position ?

You made the common mistake of thinking that Acrobat is a text editor, or an image editor. It's neither.
If you want to edit the document you should do it in another application.

Your partially right, I still don't know what Adobe Acrobat main purpose is however I did know there was a lot more to it then just simply editing PDF's.

Actually before I went out and bought acrobat I tried 3 other "PDF Editing" programs such as "Infix PDF Editor, Cad-Kas PDF Editor and Nitro PDF, all three had deleting capabilities yet they all failed to delete the text in my PDF because they could not recognize the scanned text.

Scanned text can't be deleted in the way you describe. It's just an image.
If you want to be able to edit it, you need to convert it to "real" text using OCR.
