I have created an index for 700 PDF files. the PDF files are 1.5GB in disk space. The index files (idx files) created are 66MB and 237MB. It takes about 1 minute to return search results. Are there any recommendations to improve the speed of the search. I do have a 1Gig of memory on my machine.

You might try breaking down the index into multiple index files. You can load multiple indexes using the Select Index dialog box and Acrobat viewers will search all open indexes.
