Insert Image JPG PNG existing PDF file under Acrobat X Pro

Help needed-- method to insert a JPG or PNG image file into part of a page in an existing PDF file.

-------------------

In prior Acrobat version 8 I used Touchup Object Tool to insert a JPG / PNG images into a blank area of PDF file.

Under Acrobat X Pro, the Advanced Editing Touchup Tool has disappeared and I do not see its replacement.

Am using PDF files created by others. We fill in the form, and then add a sketch (via JPG or PNG etc) into part of the page. Very basic stuff.

--------------------

one answer I received is to use Live Cycle Designer ?
a) sounds like overkill -- just want to fill in existing form fields
do not want to modify anything
b) PDF file from others has a password

If we can't use Acrobat X, probably we'll fill in text fields, print the page, scan the whole page as a graphic, and use a graphics program to insert the image. A most unhappy kluge.

thank you

In Acrobat X, open the Tools panel then expand the Contents pane. Select "Edit Object".
Kurt Foss's recent Blog article provides a nice graphic (and tells us were the "Typewriter tool" went). 8^)

I realize this questions is marked 'Answered', but I have the same question and it does not answer it for me.

I have a pdf file that I have edited using Acrobat X and now I want to insert a simple graphic (logo) in the top left corner of each of the 10 pages. Problem is, I can't figure out how to do this and it is starting to look impossible.

I can insert a video file, a sound file, a 3D file, but no .png or .jpg file. I can create a button and make a very small logo, but that is not what I am after.

The Answer as posted here, only allows me to edit text - and that tool is not a very well designed tool.

So, what am I missing? Can I insert a graphic file for a logo or not, and if so, how?

Thanks

apply any graphic as a watermark to the multi-page file. you'll need to experiment with the various settings of the watermark tool.

cainrand,

Reid provides a very functional method. As he mentioned, playing with the watermark tool's configuration will typically get one something that does the job.

What I'd pointed out to srose (the OP) was where, in Acrobat X, what was called the "TouchUp Object" tool in previous releases is now located. Acrobat X's "Edit Object" provides the "TouchUp Object" functionality. When in use this tool provides access to a context menu which has a choice "Place Image". The support graphics file formats are: JPEG, JPEG2000, BMP, GIF, PCX, PNG, or TIFF.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how that allows me to add a new image. It's just not an option.

I have a PDF that was made in Acrobat X, by printing it to a PDF with Excel. I need to add .gif images to the PDF before passing it along.

In my previous version, I would right click and select "Place Image." I can't find that option anywhere in Acrobat X.

how to access typewriter tool in Adobe/Acrobat X Pro 10 - no typewriterd in office because we had Adobe X Pro 9. To keep up-to-date, they gave us Adobe/Acrobat X Pro 10 - so many features we used all the time are gone. I advise people keep your older version until the Adobe company listens and replaces features they had.

There's an explanation for the re-naming of the Typewriter tool -- now the Add or Edit Text Box, found in Tools pane > Content in Acrobat X -- in this interview with Chris French -->

http://acrobatusers.com/articles/chris-french-what-why-behind-acrobat-x-ui-changes

Chris French said: "We had many younger-generation users going through some of the research with us, and interestingly enough, we found that some didn't know what a typewriter was."

Former editor and writer for PDFZone and Planet PDF, and currently the editor of AcrobatUsers.com, Kurt Foss' career with Adobe Acrobat and PDF began with version 1.0.

This explanation doesn't really make much sense. I bet most "younger-generation users" never used a floppy disk, either, but still the universal icon for Save is a floppy.

Here is my experience. Every time Adobe "upgrades" they make the simple more complicated.

Examples moving from 9 Pro to X Pro:
-There is no longer a default find tool to search a document. Every time one needs to do that you have to Alt+F. Cumbersome time waste.
-per the many comments about pasting into a pdf--used to be I could copy an image from a website and place that image anywhere on the pdf (very helpful for quotes we send that require an image to explain what we are suggesting)Now: the image has to be saved as a new file and we go to content-edit object-place image-which takes us to the file to select!
Let's have Adobe figure out how to waste some more of our time.
-OK? Well here is another: used to be in a file I could simply save it if a change had been made. NOW: have to go to the "Save As" and select PDF. For heaven sakes, it IS a PDF so why can't I simply click on save and keep moving?

Hope they listen and get some of these things changed.

I suspect you made the same mistake as me. You need to exit "Edit Form" mode, and then the toolbar options described above are available. The tool is context sensitive.

Finally! That answers my question anyways! Thank you! is there a way to make a template of an empty pdf file with just the logo and then I can just do a combine file with that?

An unnecessary extra step!! Adobe delights in complicating their program. Remember when they went from 8 to 9 and all of the sudden there was a 5 to 6 step process to Recognize text using OCR?

This question is not related to this topic, you should have started a new one.
The answer is no, though. It can't be done automatically when you open the file.
However, it can be done via a button or using a batch process.

Hi,

this is not only a silly thing.
Copy-pasting, as in previous versions, pasted the picture as a Comment, and the picture stays as a Comment until flattened, with all other Comments.
Acrobat X paste the picture as part of the graphic "layer" of the PDF.
Which is not the same.
So, the Touch-up picture is more powerful for placing a picture on the layout, since it allow resizing, color management, AND cropping.

;-)

Here is how I was able to insert a graphic into a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat X Pro:

1. Select "Tools" command (on upper right of screen)
2. Place cursor where you want to insert the graphic
3. Select "Add or Edit Text Box" command (in drop down under Tools command)
4. When the Typewriter dialog box comes up, just click on the X in upper right corner
5. Select "Edit Object" command (in drop down under Tools command)
6. Move the cursor to where you positioned the cursor in step 2 above and right click the mouse.
7. Select "Place Image..." from the pop-up menu.
8. The Open dialog box is displayed. Navigate through all the folders to the file you want to insert. Make sure to select the type of file you want to insert at the lower right area of the dialog box. File types include BMP, GIF, JPG, etc.
Click the Open button.
9. The image is then inserted, with a blue sizing box displayed around it.
10. Use the mouse to resize and move the graphic to the desired place.

If I try what Merlin describes above on my document, when the image is inserted it wipes out all the text on the page. The entire page is an object, so I guess that is why I have to add another text box and then edit that object to insert the image.

Here's a suggestion for Adobe. Next release, add a drop down command called "Image..." under the "Multimedia" comand. Or, add a commmand "Add or Edit Image" under the "Tools" command.
