Layers not showing in Acrobat Reader 9

I've created a PDF and saved it as version 7.0 to make it compatible for wide distribution, compressed layers and made them visible out of InDesign CS2. A friend has downloaded Reader 9.0 on both her PC laptop and desktop computer. Though she hasn't changed any settings, one of the layers isn't visible in Reader on her desktop while it is on her laptop. Is this a setting feature in Reader or is it an issue of how the PDF was saved out of InDesign?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.1.3, Windows

I didn't have any difficult viewing the file with Reader 9. The bamboo image is very faint. Is it possible that the desktop with Reader has a different screen brightness?

Screen brightness doesn't appear to be the issue...

Can your friend post a screen capture of what they are seeing?
