links in inserted pages don't work

I made a document in MS Word that has links to many other pdfs. They work in Word and they work when I turn the original word document into a pdf but when I insert those linked pdfs as pages in the main document the links no longer work- Is there a way to do this? I would like to avoid rebuilding the links when I convert from word and can not have it as one huge word doc before the conversion because the file size would be unmnageable. I hoped that the new package feature in 8.0 would do this so I downloaded the trial (supposedly fully funtioning) and it did not work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated even if it involves 3rd party plugins- I have spent ALOT of time rebuilding links because I make substantial edits to the word document. THanks

Unfortunately with links, there are some low level dependancies that control whether or not they work when pages are moved around. For example, the typical link uses page numbers, you can see some of this by looking at the link's Action in it's property panel. Obviously page number dependancies are going to break when you move pages around. Another type of link, called a destination, uses a reference to the actual page object. This kind of link doesn't break when pages are moved about (unless of course the destination page doesn't exist).

I don't know if you can control which type of link is used when the docs are converted to PDF. Check your settings, but I'm pretty sure your SOL. Take a look at 3rd party linking tools. One of these may be able to fix things up for you after the fact.
