Losing content Optimizing pdf using Acrobat Pro X

My file is created in pdf version 1.4, and when I try to Optimize (or reduce file size in any other way), some of the fill colors go away - but not all of them. The page headers are black fill with white text, and some of the black fill goes away when optimizing, just not in all areas. When I try to edit the text I can see that it still exists, but just isn't visible without the black fill. I've looked for all kinds of settings, but since not all of areas with the fill are removed I'm at a loss.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.1, Windows

What happens if you save in a later version, then save as optimized?

What other ways have you tried to reduce file size?

Simply by opening the file in Pro X and then saving the file saved as Acrobat 6 (1.5), the file size reduced by 1/2 and everything looks OK. Thanks, it was something I hadn't thought to try. But if I try to reduce that file size (still 8MB)either by Optimizing or by selecting Save As - Reduced Size PDF I have the same problem with losing the fill color on only part of the page.
