Mass Redaction

I need to redact the same specific area on all pages of a document. The text in the area differs on each page. Is there a simple way to mark the area one time on one page and apply it to all subsequent pages? If so it will save me from marking the text on each page individually.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.2, Windows

Im not sure that this can be achieved using Acrobat.

I use a software package called RapidRedact for redacting my PDF documents and in this case they offer a template tool which allows an area to be marked on a page and then all subequent pages to be automatically redacted using that the same area.

Might be worth checking out, the website is www.rapidredact.com

You can add an annotation of the type "redact" to multiple pages at the same position.

I use Acrobat 9 fairly extensively (and just checked again) and am not aware of a markup type of redaction. And I certainly want to caution people that using a markup entity is not the same as redaction! That is a fairly common mistake that can have significant consequences. I believe the RapidRedact employee who already posted here is correct that it isn't currently possible with Acrobat's redaction feature, so you might need to use a separate tool in this case.

My company makes an inexpensive redaction tool ($195 USD) called Redact-It that makes a great supplement to Acrobat for cases where more robust redaction tools are needed. Redact-It allows you to create redaction templates that can be applied to multiple pages or documents. It also offers features like the abilty to record redaction steps to apply to other documents. There is a free trial at

If you add (with a script) an annotation of the type "redact" it's exactly the same as creating a redaction manually.

Hi dan28270,

You can automate redaction with a scripting solution for Acrobat. Here is an article on that from the Learning Center here-
http://www.acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2008/07/auto_redaction_with_javascript

Since the text you want to redact has a consistent position, this is certainly doable without a third party product, but you do need some scripting skills.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri
