merging pdf with database for mail merge

I understand that Adobe Acrobat 7/8 can merge form fields with a database to create in essence, "personalized letters". We currently use Word Perfect and Access to accomplish this task. We would like to use a pdf created by Word Perfect (or another program) and SQL to perform the same.

1st Question: Can Acrobat do this?

2nd Question: Where can I find the information online (or in print) to tell me how to accomplish this.

Thanks,

A good place to start for information on this is ADBC (Acrobat Database Connectivity). This is a Javascript object inside of Acrobat that allows you to connect to Windows ODBC (Open Database Connectivity) data sources. For more information on using ADBC see the Acrobat Javascript Guide and Scripting Reference; go to the Adobe website at http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/acrobat/devcenter.html, and then click Javascript Support.
