I'm currently using Acrobat 7, working with PDF files that have large numbers of bookmarks and link boxes that need to be linked to destinations. Using Acrobat 7, I can open the properties dialog for one bookmark (or link box), set the destination, and then and then click on the another bookmark to move to it -- with the properties dialog still open -- so that I can set its destination.
One of my co-workers just got Acrobat 9 and I was experimenting with it and it seems that it's no longer possible to do this? In 9, it appears that you have to close the properties dialog to switch between one bookmark or link box and the next. Is there a a setting somewhere to change this? Closing and re-opening the properties dialog to switch between bookmarks or link boxes might not be a big deal if you've got a dozen or so, but the publications I work on often have hundreds or thousands of the things. If it turns out that Acrobat 9 is going to me to require me to open and close the properties box a couple thousand extra times per document, I would, as I just told my IT guy, rather shoot myself in the head than upgrade.
I confirmed what you observed in both Acrobat 8 & 9- you cannot keep the Properties Dialog box open when moving between link annotations. You can move from text or button fields to a link annotation and back to a text field from a link with the Properties Dialog remaining open, but not from a link to link annotation. I never noticed that behavior before but I can see how it would be very annoying.Hope this helps,
Dimitri
