When navigating via links from one PDF to another, when I go back to the first PDF, it must download all over again - and some of my PDFs are 20 M. The PDFs were created using FrameMaker. When I am working off my hard drive, this is not an issue, but as soon as the files are uploaded to a web based server, I am slowed down dramatically.
I have tried many different settings in both the Acrobat Preferences and Internet Options, and cannot seem to find the right combination to let the original PDF remain open, and the followed link open in a new browser window.
I currently use Acrobat Professional 8, Windows XP, and IE 7.
I would appreciate any words of wisdom!
The files out in web space are copied into a temp folder on the local machine.
These are what the browser renders.
Files of large size take time to "collect".
Not a browser or Acrobat application issue. Just how the "www" works.
Configuring the web server software to page/byte serve and saving all PDF files for fast web view are the two common things that can be done to let large PDF files render more quickly.
This gets a few pages quickly (for viewing) then a few more as you page down to a newer page.
Something to play with as your PDF is from a FM book.
-| Distiller job option configuration(s)
-| With book open, select book files
-| File > Print Selected Files...
-| In Print Selected Files in Book dialog
--| for "Save Selected Files As" use the dropdown menu to select
"Separate File for Each Document".
Or try the File > Print Book and, again, in the Print Book dialog,
for "Save Selected Files As" use the dropdown menu to select
"Separate File for Each Document".
Run some trials.
Now the browser is processing smaller files. Bookmarks and links
set in FM via hypertext support user friendly navigation.
Some stray thoughts.
Look over your PDF Setup settings one more time.
Have your book and files in own directory.
This directory and the output PDFs get uploaded to webspace.
If you've a generated TOC, consider making this the target file
of the URL.
Don't forget fast web view.
Bookmarks, links, etc. will work (...well they have for me ).Be well...
Be well...
