I have made a CD for Veterans of WW2. Many PDF's. But when any of the PDF's are selected to view, I also get the Navigation Panel on the left-side which takes up a lot of space, and is not used.
All I can find, is to click the "Show/Hide Navigation Panel" icon, but must do that on every page. With the age of many of the viewers this may be a problem. Few are skilled in Acrobat. Plus it is just annoying.
I understand that Version 8 has this option under "View" but my Version 5, does not.
How can I globally eliminate the navigation panel on all the PDF's.

If you have Acrobat 5.x "Full" (no professional / standard) back then) you can set a PDF's open options to have the PDF open with the Navigation Pane closed.
I don't know if Acrobat Business Tools (another 5.x era product) has the same functionality.
File > Document Properties > Open Options
In the Open Options dialog window you have 3 panes.
Initial View | Window Options | User Interface Options
In the Initial View pane select "Page Only" which will result in the PDF opening with the Navigation Pane closed.
Note that this will have no effect on the view set by any bookmarks the PDF may have.
Acrobat 5 - Full can use Batch Sequences. A new sequence can be made to set the desired open options.
This uses the the sequence "Set Open Options".
File > Batch Processing > Edit Batch SequencesBe well...
