Newbie: How to create a pop-up type aid over a jpeg image ?

I am a foreign language teacher who is trying to create a digital book for my students. The pages of the book are jpeg images with foreign language text saved as an individual jpeg file. Those individual jpeg files have been combined via the Combine Files into a PDF package feature to create my "book".

Some text is unfamiliar to students and it would be ideal to have a pop-up clip art / another small jpeg to illustrate the vocabulary --but only if needed.

I have seen this type feature (have no idea how to accomplish it) using Flash.

I have NO idea how to accomplish this, but am wondering if the insert Movie feature would work?

At this point, I am unsure if I will distribute my "books" online or via DVD to individual students. Students will need to be able to view the "book" via the free Adobe Player.

Truly, ANY help or suggestions would be valuable.
Thank you! :)

Hi --

You don't need anything as complex as a movie or flash. In Acrobat, you can use a button, and type the text you want to display in a popup.

The process has a fair number of steps, but once you get started it is very quick to reproduce for an entire book.

Check out the downloads page from my website at www.donnabaker.ca/downloads.html for my two books, Acrobat 7 in the Office, and Acrobat 8 in the Office. There are some examples, and a couple of bonus project files that go through popups and other features.

If you check out this page: http://tinyurl.com/2tf98g there's a file called overview.pdf that gives you an example of what I think you're looking for.
