When I try to open a .pdf file from any website, I get this message: "Cannot use Adobe Reader to vew PDF in your browser. reader will now exit your browser and try again." If I hit cancel it opens. this is on IE and Firefox. This started after I downloaded 8.1. It didn't do this with 8.0. How do I correct this?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.0999999999999996447286321199499070644378662109375, Windows

In Reader, under Edit | Preferences --> general --> Internet make sure that Open PDFs in Browser window is checked. You will need to restart IE.If this doesn't work, we have to break out the tools....

Uninstall Adobe Reader. Reboot your machine, reinstall.

If that doesn't do it, we need a bigger hammer - after the removal and reboot, install and run CCLEANER (www.ccleaner.com) you will want to do the analysis/fix operations for both Cleaner and Issues areas.
Reboot (flush cashed DLL's and internal system trash in memory), reinstall.

While I have not had any issues with this product, and use it myself for a number of fixes, it is use at your own risk - standard disclaimers apply - especially the one about Adobe Systems not endorsing nor being responsible.

I solved this problem by deselecting the "Open PDFs" box in my Adobo Pro 6.0 preferences. There was an apparent conflict between the same selection in my new 8.0 Acrobat Reader. Now it works just fine.
