Organizer Function Problem

Hi dddamore,

Have you tried using the Repair Acrobat Installation command under the Help menu to see if this corrects the problem? Also, there is a recent update 8.1 that might help.

Thanks for the only response I've received.

Unfortunately, I have tried the Repair Acrobat Installation and have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. This didn't work. I also can't install the 8.1 update. The update installation gets almost all the way through then advises me that the update could not be completed. I haven't been able to diagnose the cause and any help would be welcomed there too.

Now, the best solution for me would be to "disable" Organizer so I wouldn't have to wait every time I save a PDF only to be told via a dialog box that Organizer isn't functioning.

See if this corrects the problem:

Close Acrobat.

Go to Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/7.0

If the folder named organizer70 is present but has a tidle in front of it, or is truncated, rename it and create a new folder named organizer70.

If the folder does not appear create a new folder and name it organizer70.

Start Acrobat 7.0.x and see if the error message appears.

Also, make sure you're not logged on as root (System Administrator) when using Acrobat.

BY THE WAY, I trust you were addressing the problem for Acrobat 8 Pro and erred in your last step which said..."Start Acrobat 7.0.x and see if the error message appears." I never had a problem in Acrobat 7 Pro.

None of this works.

Here is what the Console shows every time I open Acrobat Pro 8.0 on my PPC G4 Mac PowerBook running OS X 10.4.10:

Adobe SelfHealing Error: Unable to resolve target URL for specified destination:

Adobe SelfHealing Error: Unable to resolve target URL for specified destination:
Office/{REPLACE}/PowerPoint/PDFMaker.ppa

Office/{REPLACE}/Word/PDFMaker.dot

Here's what the Console shows when I move my cursor to try to open the Organizer (and the error message appears):

And here's what the Console shows when I then Quit Acrobat:

Check that mysqld is running and that the socket: '/Users/dddamore/Library/Caches/Acrobat/8.0_ppc/Organizer70' exists!

I believe it is a home directory issue, not a local user issue. Lori, is there a way to disable the organizer function?

It may have something to do with having redirection setup on a network folder.
I'll check on the possibilty of disabling the organizer function.

Adding "organizer70" to the 8.0_x86 cache directory cleared up one error but now there is a problem with the length of the socket file path;

070921 13:02:58 [ERROR] The socket file path is too long /private/Network/Servers/homesrv1/Volumes/drive_h1_d3/shares/Library/Caches/Acrobat/8.0_x86/Organizer70

I am experiencing the same problem in Acrobat 8. Using it in a corporate environment, with Mac OS X. In v7, the error message appeared when opening a pdf. In v8, which my whole dept just got on my recommendation, the error message appears when closing a pdf. It only happens if Acrobat is closed and you open a file. On closing the file, you get:

Could not initialize Organizer database. Organizer features will not be available.

This is highly annoying, particularly considering that I must train a dozen newbies and I must explain to the trainees that they can ignore this message.

Any fix for this yet?

I've found a solution to this problem after much digging. It's caused by a conflict between Acrobat's built in mysql and any mysql instance you may have installed on your system:

By the way, you should be able to see this problem simply by starting Adobe fresh, then going to "File->Organizer"

Unfortunately, the link provided by wwhchung does not work -- reach Adobe forum with a notice about attachments being disabled. Can somebody please post the actual solution? This is a most annoying problem.
