Acrobat interprets Illustrator .ai files the same as PDF documents as long as you save an .ai file with PDF compatability. Just click the Combine Files task button in Acrobat 8 and select your Illustrator files to add to the collection. A single PDF document of all selected files will be created.
If you saved your Illustrator files without PDF compatabilty, you'll need to reopen them in Illustrator and save with the PDF Compatability feature.
