PDF Linking

I have a question regarding making a link in a pdf that when selected will open another pdf. I understand how to do it in a static environment like a hard drive where the path is fixed, but I need to burn a bunch of PDFs to cd and need to be able to have the drive letter change based on computer/drive used. Is there a way to put in a wild card or something of that nature?

Thanks

For PDFs that are inter-linked and going to a CD/DVD use relative path links.
While you could build your collection on your HDD's root and then burn these to the disc
it is often easier to the work in a sub-directory.
Drop that directory and any nested directories onto the CD/DVD.
All the relative path links will work. If you've added a catalog index or multiple indexes
they can be added as well.

This way the CD/DVD is drive letter neutral.

Be well...

daka630,

How do I create this relative path link? When making the link with the link tool it brings up a window for file selection, there isn't anywhere to type.

In context of the schematic at post's end...
You are in PDF02a. Some content refers to PDF01b. With the link tool you lay a link over the content.
Set the link appearance.Select the Link Action (Open a file). Do Next. With the Select File to Open dialog,
browse to PDF01b. Use Specify Open Preference to set how PDF01b is to be opened. Do OK. Save As.

You want to link from a navtoc PDF to the various PDFs or link between PDFs...

Same methodology for any other links between the PDF files.
You have a relative link.

Use your CD/DVD burning application to burn and all child directories/files to disc.
I prefer to stage in a "burn" directory on my local HDD (c:\_aBurn).
Avoid trying to pull from a network server. You'll not be able to "feed" the burn fast enough.

A simplified schematic of a typical pdf doc set I burn to CD for distribution.

Hi,
I was trying to link one part from a .pdf file to another part in another .pdf file - and I found that easy to do, using the Set Link option, and it works perfectly locally on my computer. But, when I upload both documents on a SharePoint server, the link only opens the other .pdf file, but not the correct destination I've previously set. I've also tried to set the link as URL, but I can only define the page where I would like the link to take me, and not the exact place within the document.
Is there any other way I could link a .pdf file to a certain bookmark or destination in the other .pdf file which would function properly in the SharePoint server?
Thank you very much,
Eli

What is the format of your file names?

I have several thousand files on a SharePoint site all interlinked without a problem for one documentation project and files are added weekly. But when asked to add some files from a parent organization, I had problems creating links within the PDF's and have the links work on SharePoint because of the naming format. I found the problem was MicroSoft not being able handle spaces in the file names on SharePoint. So you either have to rename the files and remove the spaces or replace the space with a character like the underscore.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my post and try to solve my problem. However, my problem was not trying to link the documents in the SharePoint - that works perfectly well, but the problem is that when I link a source file to a certain place in a target file (both in .pdf), the link works perfectly well for me, but when other users try to open the file, the link leads them to the first page of the target file, not to the exact destination I've set. How can I manage to make "my view" to be "their view" too?
Thank you very much,
