PIXMDLN.DLL error message

Hi:

I am hoping someone can help. I get an error message whenever I try to open a PDF file, which reads: "The application has failed to start because PIXMDLN.DLL was not found. Re-installing may fix this problem."

After I click 'ok', the application opens anyway. My administrator has tried to uninstall/reinstall the software (Adobe Professional 8) but the message still appears. This is very annoying. Is there a way to fix this?

THX.

Are you using other applications along with Acrobat such as Acrobat Capture and/or PixTools from EMC Corporation? Are you opening TIFF files (with LZW compression) or PDF files?

Thank you for your response. I never heard of PixTools prior to seeing your post. I am mainly working with PDF files. There may have been a couple of TIFF files that I tried to open but I can't be sure. I can tell you that I have had no issues with version 8.0 until approx. 2 weeks ago. I apologize for not being able to give you a more detailed response.

The PIXMDLN.DLL is not associated with Acrobat, which makes this error message unusual. It is generally used with scanning software-- thus the question about using Acrobat Capture. Are you using Acrobat 8.1.3? Do you update/install anything on your system in the last few weeks?

Wait....I just remembered something. I did have a special software program installed awhile back which worked along with Adobe Acrobat. This was 'wiped off' my system at some point when the IT folks uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe. I think this program may have used Adobe Capture in its framework!!!

I am going to have it reinstalled this week and will advise you if it resolves the problem.
