Printing a 59K pdf file takes a loooong time

WinXP Home; HP laserjet P2015

I have a 58K pdf file that was created from a web page. It was originally a 3-page document. I deleted the last page and re-save the file and reduce the file size.

When I print it, it didn't print right away. The "progress" box shows "flattening"(?) near the bottom. So I open the Printer Property box; and it shows the document is spooling and the size is 7.75 MB for each page!

How can a 58K pdf file somehow becomes a 15+ MB file upon printing? Is the file damaged? If yes, can I repair it? How?

TIA

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 10.1, Windows

This is not uncommon. It shows the compressing capability of PDF on one hand, and the size of raster files on the other.

You might check if your printing is more efficient if you use the "print as image" option (or not) in the Acrobat print dialog.

Hope this can help.

Thanks. That does make the print file much smaller (1.5MB vs 15MB) and prints faster.

A followup question. In the Advanced Print Setup (where I check "print as image"), is then anything I can change to make the raster files smaller? e.g. since my printer is black & white only, I can set "Output" to Composite gray? How about "Screening", "Transparency Flattener Preset", etc.TIA

For some reason, I am not getting the "Accept this Answer" button on this reply. Can anyone tell me why or how do I get that button so that I can click on it?

There are some options where you can set a few parameters in the print dialog, mainly the Quality and Media and the Color Options settings. This may, however, be specific for your printer (driver).

Hope this can help.
