Printing a PDF Form

I recently attempted to print a PDF form with content in which just the form was printed without any content. Either I'm doing something wrong in the process or there may be a bug in Acrobat X, has anyone else had a problem?

Were you attempting to print from Reader or Pro? If it was Reader, then perhaps your form isn't Reader-enabled for saving the form field content.

No I'm using Pro and want to send it to an organization I'm doing audits for. It is important that the signed PDF not be changed. The office for some reason was having problems opening the PDF, so I was trying to print to a file and save back to a PDF. I know this is an awkward process but the safe method I can think of getting it done. They do not want to see PDF any long and I will not send it in word.

Exactly what is your process? Are you printing an existing PDF form to PDF again? If so, you shouldn't do this. Instead, use the password protection features to disable changes to the file.

As a reminder the PDF is a form with content that has been signed by myself and the customer.

The PDF has two digital signatures which locks the file from editing on placing the signatures, which is what is expected. I look at the Document Properties and everything is allowed except Changing and Document Assembly. The person that I sent it to, for some reason, is having difficulties sending the PDF as you can see from his email.

"I have attempted to send a the CC Industries report form to our administrator in Montreal several times using different methods but all he receives is the blank form. This is required for records backup. Please send him a copy of this form -- address in cc block.

In the future send your reports in to me in unprotected Word format. I will no longer accept .pdf formats from you."

I want to provide him a digitally signed copy without any protection which cannot be changed. The only way to do this is to print to a file and create a new PDF from the PRN file. This will test his ability to send an unsigned PDF that is still protected.

Get the picture? Everything works fine at my end but not his.

What type of system is the administrator in Montreal using? OS, version of Acrobat/Reader, etc?

Hi Lori,

Here is the system having problems with Acrobat, I think it will shed some light on the problem. If you have any work around's let me know. I think it may be the signatures and an Apple system.

"I am using Apple OS 10.6.5 which seems to handle .pdf files without benefit of Adobe applications. No Adobe apps are listed within the computer. "

You are using Preview, which is Apple's version of Adobe's Reader, and which is known to have problems with form fields.
Try installing Reader and printing the file from there.

PS - Why did you write in your original post that you are running Acrobat Pro under Windows?

Because I am, the person having the problem is on Apple which I was assuming was on Windows until I requested a confirmation from him. I know nothing about the Apple system so what you are saying is that Reader can be installed on his Apple machine?

If your recipient does have Reader already installed, there is a known issue with the Mac Preview and form fields. Here is a link to a script that might address this:

I am Having a similar issue. Users are using acrobat reader x in a windows sever 2008 terminal server environment. the Form based Pdf looks perfect on screen but when any user tries to print the Font Leading changes and the text in the form fields becomes vertically compressed (line spacing not letter height).

We have a similar issue on a windows standalone system, all printers produce the same issue.
