There seems to be a bug Reader-9.2.0: fails to recognize page layout setting "single page continuous"; displays at "single page" File created in AA-8.1.4 std [doc properties > intial view tab]. Can anyone confirm or refute this? The issue does not seem to affect AA-8 or Reader-8.

My Product Information:
Reader 9.2, Windows

Hi rbogie,

The only way I could fix the problem was to click on the icon at the top with the description: "Click to scroll through the document continuously."

Hope this helps.

I've got the same issue and it is incredibly annoying. I'm guessing it's a bug, or there's a setting in the document that overrides the defaults (which to me is also a bug - the way I want to view documents should be up to me not the publisher). I've just got into the habit of clicking the button at the top that sets the mode to continuous.

Greetings all,

I too was dealing with this issue, until I came across the solution.

Click View --> Page Display --> Single Page Continuous (or what ever option you would like)Hope this helps,

thanks for responding. the issue, however, is that Reader-9 fails to display at 'single page continuous' when that setting is made (by the author of the file) to take hold by default (in Acrobat: 'file > properties > initial view'). this issue, as far as I can tell, does not affect Reader-8, just Reader-9.

On a follow-up to this post.
Does anyone know if future revisions of reader will allow you to set your Reader 9.x profile to be "single page continuous" regardless of how the PDF document has been produced, whether single-page or continuous.
Is it a case fro when we create our PDF files, using Acrobat 6.0, can we set "single-page continuous" as a default which would then make ALL output PDF documents that format.
Thanks

This is quite annoying. Their help page says we should be able to set the default view, and that the document view can override. But even when i change the view of the document and close it, it will still open as single page.

I do not see any "Initial view" option when i go to File > PropertiesI'm running Adobe 9.3.0 on Windows 7 64

launch help and search on 'initial view'. click ctrl+D and open the 'initial view' tab and then 'page layout'. this is where the author sets the default behavior of the file. (in response to an earlier post in this thread: the user of the file can, of course, override the author's default settings)

In the "Document Properties" I only see these 4 tabs:

description, security, font, advanced.

I reckon that Acrobat Reader is getting worse and worse - you can set this in your preferences but it does not save it next time you open it.

I think I will uninstall Reader and go back to Foxit...does just as well if not better, and runs much faster on slower computers.

Acrobat Reader is "view only" for PDFs; that is, no "editing" (unless the PDF has be "enabled" by Acrobat Pro). Consequently, Reader does not provide for configuration of the PDF's "Initial View". If the originator of the PDF has configured specifics in "Inital View" then that is how the PDF will always open. Acrobat would be required to change the configuration of "Initial View". Once the PDF is opened with Reader there are tools within Reader to configure page view, magnification, etc. to something else while the PDF is opened (in effect while the PDF is being viewed).

To select tools to place on the toolbar: Tools > Customize Toolbars

Be well...
