In acrobat when you click a button it displays a marquee outlining the button area. Is there a way to remove this? By script or something.

It's not when you press it, but when the focus is set to it (for example, you'll see it if you tab to the button, without pressing it). And no, it can't be removed with a script, but you can disable it by going to Edit - Preferences - Forms, and ticking off "Show focus rectangle".

You can control the focus rectangle with a script by modifying the app.focusRect property. But since this is a user preference, you should at least attempt to set it back to its original state when your document closes.
